As an international registered nurse and medical technologistyou spend a lot of your time doing things to enhance patients’ well-being, but it’s equally as important to take care of yourself. Conexus MedStaff recently launched an exciting new wellness program for our healthcare professionals (HCPs) who are deployed across the U.S., to encourage the brilliant people who work for us to take time to care for themselves. We’d like to take this opportunity to introduce you to our first HCP Wellness Ambassador, Rosanelle, who is keen to share what well-being means to her with her fellow healthcare professionals throughout the Conexus Community.

From Haiti, Rosanelle moved to the U.S. with her husband and two sons to start a new career as a nurse with Conexus in 2022. Her definition of wellness is “a sense of balance physically, mentally, and spiritually. Everything does not have to be perfect for someone to be well, it requires a certain level of acknowledgment and readiness to make the changes required to find that balance. Once found, wellness is achieved.”

Rosanelle enjoys being a great mentor to her colleagues at Conexus, the hospital in which she works, and through YouTube, where she shares her regimented wellness practices with other healthcare professionals and her diverse community. In one of her videos, she addresses how to deal with homesickness, something that many expatriates, including nurses and medical technologists working in the U.S., have to overcome. According to Rosanelle, “the video is based on my experience as a foreigner. While sharing my experience, I offered some advice to those who, just like me, left their blood family behind to begin a new life away in another country. It provides, to the viewer, not only a way to manage through this difficult time, but also the reassurance that it is ok to feel homesick."

Among Rosanelle’s most common wellness practices are reading, journaling, exercising, and cleaning. She also likes to dress well, and will apply makeup even when, in her own words, it is ‘not necessary’, as it makes her feel prettier.

As the first Conexus HCP Wellness Ambassador, Rosanelle intends to share her experience, joy and creativity to influence others and encourage them to find balance in their life. She also wishes to create a platform where people can be heard without any barriers and is planning a wellness engagement event for healthcare professionals in her local area.

Rosanelle’s top three tips to inspire other healthcare professionals to adopt healthy habits are:

  • What you feed your body plays a key role in how you feel overall. In other words, I would encourage healthy eating habits.

  • Surround yourself with positive people. Protect your positive energy.

  • Do what is within your power - the rest leave it up to God. Accept your limited power while embracing your abilities.
