With new opportunities for international registered nurses and international nursing graduates in Iowa, the team at Conexus thought it sensible to explore why.

In this post, we’ve put together some reasons why the Hawkeye State ranks as the number one state to live and work in the U.S. We’ll also share why our candidates will love this humble and hardworking state, where you can truly accomplish anything! Trust us, there’s more to this lesser known state than meets the eye.

The Weather

We know that the weather is important to our international registered nurses when choosing where to set up home in the U.S. If you’re a registered nurse looking to experience all four seasons, then Iowa is the place for you.

A white Christmas? YES

A fresh, bright Spring? YES

A golden, glowing Summer? YES

A picturesque Fall? YES

For all a full complement of seasonal experiences, Iowa has it all.

The famous Iowa State Fair

Running for 11 days in August, the Iowa State Fair celebrates Iowa’s rich cultural heritage. Immerse yourself in the entertainment. Go and take a look at the Butter Cow, a life-size cow made entirely from butter (a 100 year tradition). And in addition to taking a selfie with the Butter Cow, you can enjoy the vast majority of food that’s on offer - for instance, the traditional ‘Corn Dog’. Or, along with tens of thousands of people visiting each day, why not sit back and people watch? But above all, make time to appreciate Iowa’s agricultural greatness!

Small town meets big city life

Iowa is one of the most agriculturally efficient states in the country and is well known for its farming and rural communities. That said, there is also an urban spark to this Midwestern state.

So what does the Midwestern lifestyle consist of? Well, in essence, it’s a mixture of the best of both worlds! Iowa’s beautiful, rolling plains and farmers markets are bursting with fresh produce. That’s complemented by its urban communities like the blossoming city of Des Moines with its vibrant Downtown! Iowa is also located close to other Midwestern cities, too. If like us you love a road trip, why not visit Chicago or Kansas City?

“Iowa Nice”

We’d challenge anyone to find us a state that was kinder than Iowa. "Iowa Nice" is a cultural label used to describe the attitudes and friendly behaviors of people of Iowa. The truth is that you won’t find more pleasant, friendly people than the good folks of Iowa.

Voted #1 U.S. State

If the above reasons aren’t enough to convince you to put Iowa on your bucket list, then maybe the fact that Iowa was officially voted the number one state to live and work in the USA in 2018. The best state rankings show that there is more to Iowa than corn. Its infrastructure, healthcare, education and quality of life were key factors in this top ranking.
