Conexus Partners with Taimaka in Support of Providing Critical Malnutrition Care to Nigerian Children

Conexus, a leading international nurse recruitment agency based in the United States, has partnered with Taimaka, an organization providing critical malnutrition care to children in Gombe State, Nigeria.

Grant funding from international nurse recruiter Conexus will support Taimaka’s flagship program, which has reimagined pediatric malnutrition treatment by making it more cost-effective and scalable.

Acute malnutrition is the world’s deadliest disease for children, impacting 45.4 million children globally and causing 3.1 million preventable deaths every year. Children who survive can suffer from life-long setbacks to their immune systems, neurodevelopment, and educational potential.

Speaking about the partnership, Dr. Abubakar Umar, Co-founder and Medical Director at Taimaka, said: “Making treatment simpler, cheaper, and more accessible is saving more lives in the most vulnerable communities. Support from organizations like Conexus comes at a critical time for the families we serve as we scale up the program. This expansion will allow us to treat thousands of the sickest children in the world, while proving our model over a wider geographic area.”

Taimaka, founded in 2020, combats acute childhood malnutrition by building on the strengths of the existing healthcare system. Taimaka trains community health workers and provides them with digital tools to ensure consistent quality of care, without having to rely on nurses and doctors. The program provides therapeutic foods, medicines, and vaccinations to help children recover. The treatment model is 53% cheaper than legacy approaches and over 95% of children fully recover.

“At Conexus, we are committed to giving back to healthcare causes that are important to our employees,” said Andrew Moreton, CEO of Conexus MedStaff. “We believe in supporting projects that help solve global problems and that can demonstrate measurable impact. We are honored to partner with Taimaka, an organization that has treated thousands of children with acute malnutrition, saving young lives. The innovation of the team and their ambition to scale this program across communities in Nigeria will help thousands more.”

Conexus is proud to have helped thousands of international nurses live their version of the American dream. Beyond nurse recruitment, Conexus is committed to creating positive global impact by improving care quality in the U.S. healthcare system, and improving the well-being of communities around the world.
