The ASHHRA annual conference is a key event for health care human resources professionals to come together to share knowledge and expertise! So when the Conexus team found out the 54th annual conference was to be held in Pittsburgh – ranked one of Travel + Leisure's Best Places to Travel and chosen by both National Geographic Traveler as one of the best cities to in the United States - Conexus’ Tom and Laquanda jumped at the chance to go.

Pittsburgh and ASHHRA

The City of Pittsburgh lies in the south western quadrant of the state of Pennsylvania, the Keystone State. Our colleagues attended ASHHRA to learn more about the health care industry and to meet directors, vice presidents and CEOs of America’s top hospitals and health care systems, to find out more about their hospital demands and to tell them about the positive impact of hiring international registered nurses to help them combat the nursing shortage in the USA.

We caught up with our Operations Manager, Laquanda, to find out more about the event, what she enjoyed the most about the event and how she spent her short time in Pittsburgh.

CM: Hi Laquanda, firstly, tell us about Pittsburgh?

LAQUANDA: Pittsburgh was really nice and it was awesome being able to view PNC Ball Park, home of the Pittsburgh Pirates, and Heinz Field. But what stands out the most about Pittsburgh was being able to view the entire city from the mountain top!

CM: Wow, sounds amazing! So, what was the ASHHRA 54th Annual conference like this year?

L: I have attended the event in the past which usually has an awesome turn out from HR Director’s and Nursing Executive’s from all over the country representing their Hospital Organization. This year due to the Hurricane in the Carolina’s and lower Southern regions effected the overall turnout.

CM: It’s a shame to hear about the far-reaching the effects of the Hurricane Florence, but we are inspired by the resilience and bravery of the people of the Carolinas and lower Southern regions. Despite the lower turnout this year, what was the best part of the conference?

L: The best part of the conference was attending the Networking event and really getting to interact with the Organization’s outside of the Conference.

CM: How does attending events like ASHHRA benefit our candidates?

L:  We attended the event to assist with our continued efforts with Business Development and to connect with the best hospital systems in the USA. This in turn will allow Conexus Medstaff nurses with access to America’s finest hospitals and healthcare systems, as well as provide them with additional staffing options during their 5,000 hour contract with Conexus Medstaff.
