Building Confidence for International Nurses Through U.S. Clinical Development

Tags: Why Conexus

At Conexus, we know that starting a nursing role in the U.S. can be both exciting and challenging. Even highly skilled international nurses face a learning curve when adapting to new workflows, documentation standards, and care protocols. Our clinical development program is designed to bridge that gap, building the skills, knowledge, and confidence nurses need to succeed in the U.S. healthcare system from day one.

Preparing Nurses for Success

Clinical development at Conexus supports nurses from the moment of hire, through immigration and deployment, and into everyday practice. We prepare nurses not only for the clinical care they'll deliver, but for how that care is delivered here in the U.S., including communication expectations, documentation standards, patient safety protocols, and working effectively within interdisciplinary teams.

Before placement begins, nurses go through targeted training focused on the aspects of U.S. nursing practice that often differ most from international experience. Through structured learning and ongoing support, nurses arrive ready to practice safely and confidently.

We also recognize the genuine enthusiasm nurses bring to this journey. They are eager to grow, engage with new technology, and contribute the expertise they've worked hard to develop. Our clinical development program helps channel that energy into capable, confident practice, creating a strong foundation for long-term success for both the nurse and the patients they serve.

Throughout placement, our clinical team continues to provide guidance, feedback, and mentorship. Regular rounding from the development team, combined with real-time support, helps nurses adapt to real-world situations, reinforce best practices, and build lasting confidence in their new environment.

Meet the Team: Educator Spotlight

Kristen Becker — Director of Clinical Services

After nearly two decades in nursing, with a background spanning clinical practice, education, and integrative wellness, Kristen has always been drawn to supporting nurses beyond the bedside. At Conexus, she leads clinical development and supports internationally educated nurses as they transition into practice in the United States, from early preparation through placement and beyond.

"My work centers around helping nurses build confidence, strengthen clinical judgment, and find their footing in complex care environments," says Kristen. "They come in with so much skill and dedication, and I see my role as making sure they are supported, respected, and set up to succeed."

For Kristen, the most meaningful part of the work is being present at a pivotal moment in a nurse's career and advocating for them in real, practical ways. "Watching their confidence grow and seeing the impact they have on patients and their teams — that's what makes this work matter."
