More Than a Recruiter: Meet Steffy John
By Conexus MedStaff - Posted Dec 19, 2025

At Conexus, recruitment isn’t just about filling positions, it’s about changing lives. Meet Steffy John, International Recruiter Team Lead, who brings empathy, experience and personal understanding to every conversation.
Starting a healthcare career in the United States can feel overwhelming. The paperwork, timelines and uncertainty are a lot to navigate, especially when you’re doing it from thousands of miles away.
But at Conexus MedStaff, you’re never tackling it alone.
We sat down with Steffy to talk about what the Recruitment team does behind the scenes, how she supports healthcare professionals at the very beginning of their U.S. journey and why her work is about so much more than matching candidates to jobs.
Steffy, can you tell us about your role on the Recruitment team?
“As a Senior Recruiter at Conexus, I support and guide the team while interviewing and assessing healthcare professionals to ensure high quality placements. With over five years at Conexus, I bring strong organizational knowledge and a deep understanding of the healthcare sector to my role.”
In other words, Steffy isn’t just screening resumes. She’s evaluating fit, readiness and potential, making sure every candidate who moves forward is set up for success.
How do you support international nurses and medical technologists at the very start of their Conexus journey?
“I support international nurses and medical technologists by offering a warm, welcoming conversation where they feel comfortable asking questions and fully understand the process. As an immigrant myself, I understand how stressful the journey can be, so I prioritize transparency, reassurance and clear guidance from the very beginning.”
This is what sets Conexus apart. Steffy doesn’t just know the process, she’s lived it. That lived experience shapes every conversation she has with candidates who are standing at the beginning of their own journey.
How does the Recruitment team help healthcare professionals understand whether Conexus, and the U.S. pathway, is right for them?
“I help healthcare professionals understand whether Conexus and the U.S. pathway are right for them by taking the time to listen to their entire journey, both personal and professional. I then provide honest, tailored guidance based on their individual goals, circumstances and readiness for the process.”
Not every candidate is ready right now. And that’s okay. Steffy’s job isn’t to push people through, it’s to help them figure out if this is the right path at the right time.
What motivates you when you’re supporting someone who may feel unsure, overwhelmed or discouraged during the early stages?
“What motivates me is empathy. I know firsthand, as an immigrant, how much is on the line and the challenges that come with starting a new journey. At the same time, I am driven to educate and guide them, helping them navigate the process correctly so they have a successful path to the U.S.”
When someone is feeling discouraged, they don’t need empty reassurances. They need someone who gets it, and Steffy does.
What are some of the most common questions or concerns candidates have when they first connect with you and how do you help them navigate those?
“The most common questions I receive from candidates are about immigration and potential delays in the process. I help them navigate these concerns by providing the most up-to-date and accurate information I have, so they can plan and feel more confident about the next steps.”
Immigration timelines are unpredictable. But having accurate, honest information from someone you trust? That makes all the difference.
How do you support candidates in setting expectations, both for the process and for life in the U.S.?
“I support candidates in setting expectations by being honest and providing realistic insights about both the process and life in the U.S., helping them prepare thoroughly and feel more confident about their journey.”
No sugar coating. No false promises. Just honest preparation so candidates know what they’re walking into.
What do you think people would be surprised to learn about the work the Recruitment team does behind the scenes?
“People would be surprised by how much time it actually takes to get to know each individual and ensure they are matched to our program.”
This isn’t a transactional process. The Recruitment team invests time in understanding who you are, where you’re coming from and what you need to succeed, long before you ever step foot in the U.S.
What do you want every Conexus candidate to know about the Recruitment team and the commitment you make to them?
“I want every candidate to know that our goal is to help them become successful healthcare professionals in the U.S., which may mean guiding them to make certain changes before we begin the process to set them up for success.”
Sometimes, the best support means helping someone get ready, not just moving them through quickly.
Recruitment at Conexus isn’t about filling quotas. It’s about understanding people, preparing them well and setting them up for long-term success in the United States.
Steffy and the Recruitment team are the first people you’ll meet at Conexus. And from that very first conversation, you’ll know that you’re not just another application. You’re a person with a story and a future worth investing in.
