Conexus MedStaff® recognizes that modern slavery and human trafficking is a global issue that requires a collective effort to combat. Therefore, Conexus MedStaff is committed to preventing human trafficking and modern slavery in all its forms within our business operations and supply chain.

This statement is made pursuant to section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 (UK) and California Transparency in Supply Chains Act 2010 (USA) and reflects our commitment to preventing modern slavery and human trafficking.

Organizational Structure and Business 

Conexus MedStaff is an international healthcare professional recruitment and staffing agency. The group comprises of Conexus MedStaff Holding Company Limited and Conexus MedStaff Limited in the United Kingdom and MedStaff Holding Company LLC and Conexus MedStaff® LLC in the United States. Conexus is a family-owned business.

Conexus MedStaff operates offices in the UK, USA and Philippines. The group’s current, primary operation is to educate, recruit and place international registered nurses and medical technologists (collectively referred to as Healthcare Professionals or HCPs) into U.S. hospitals over a contract that spans between 2-3 years. Our experienced team is committed to ethical, best practice recruitment and operational practices aimed at improving the working lives of our healthcare professionals.

Supply Chain 

Conexus MedStaff does not manufacture or produce physical goods, but all goods and services procured go through a central team, which is responsible for assessing the suitability and any associated risk of suppliers and ensuring the relevant due diligence checks are conducted.

Conexus MedStaff has a limited supply chain, contracting reputable suppliers of goods and services, mostly based in the UK and USA. Conexus MedStaff has zero tolerance to slavery and human trafficking and Procurement expect all our supply chain and contractors to not only comply with our values but to have and maintain their own safeguarding policies against modern slavery.

Conexus MedStaff operates a Procurement Policy which applies to all persons working on behalf of Conexus MedStaff or one of its subsidiaries in any capacity, including employees at all levels, directors, officers, agency workers, seconded workers, volunteers, interns, agents, contractors, external consultants, third-party representatives and business partners.

Risks

As a recruitment and staffing agency dedicated to helping international registered nurses, international U.S. nursing graduates and medical technologists reach their dreams of working in the USA, we understand the risks for human trafficking that exist in our industry. As such we are committed to reviewing and improving the processes we have in place to mitigate against human rights violations at every stage of the HCP journey, from recruitment to completion of contracts.

We recognize our responsibility as a staffing company to work to ensure there are no instances of modern slavery or human trafficking within our business and our supply chain. Conexus MedStaff is a proud member of AAIHR – American Association of International Healthcare Recruitment - which means we are strong advocates for legal and ethical recruitment of foreign-educated healthcare professionals to the United States. At Conexus, we are committed to creating an honest and ethical workplace culture and ensuring our people are educated on how to report concerns. Conexus has a range of policies and procedures set out in the Conexus Operational Standards Handbook and Employee Handbook to identify and mitigate risk in relations to slavery and human trafficking. These include our Grievances and Whistleblowing policy which encourages reporting of any concerns with a no retaliation. All employees, including our healthcare professionals, have their rights detailed in both the employee handbook and contract of employment.

Conexus MedStaff has also earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Health Care Staffing Services Certification and adheres to the Code of Conduct including the Principle of Workplace Conduct and Employment Practices. As an accredited organisation, any person can report a concern about Conexus MedStaff® to the Joint Commission’s confidential hotline.

Due Diligence

We require all suppliers to operate with suitable policies and zero-tolerance approaches to modern slavery. As part of our risk assessment and mitigation, were required we conduct a Supplier Review that requires transparency and disclosures on their anti-slavery practices.

We regularly review and update our policies and procedures to build best practices. As part of this, Conexus MedStaff® is further developing its ethical governance framework to strengthen our commitment to preventing modern slavery. Planned actions include becoming a signatory of the United Nations Global Compact to demonstrate our commitment to international human rights, joining the Alliance for Ethical International Recruitment Practices, creating a Supplier Code of Conduct, and inclusion of modern slavery in annual training sessions delivered to all employees.

Effective Actions 

Should reports of modern slavery or human trafficking be received by Conexus relating to our business or supply chain, immediate action would be taken to investigate and take effective action. This could include making reports to all appropriate law enforcement bodies and terminating supplier contracts with immediate effect.
