Planning for Your Growth from the Start
Through Conexus Academy, we build your confidence and competence from the very beginning to help you advance in your career. You’ll arrive in the U.S. with credibility, professionalism, and a sense of confidence that you are prepared to transition into a new workplace in a new country.
Here’s what you can look forward to and the steps and timing involved.
Initial Assessment
Together, we’ll discuss your goals, review your clinical skill level and identify which area in a U.S. hospital is a good fit for you. This assessment identifies your personal clinical skill baseline. It covers all areas of the NCLEX test and can highlight any skill gaps or strengths.
Competency for U.S. Practice
Foundational to bridge the learning gap to practicing in the U.S., learning journey mapping per individual skill level and specialty. You’ll then receive coaching and support to close any gaps based on your abilities and we personalize your plan based on where you will be working.
Year 1 in the U.S.
Your first year in the U.S. will include orientation, cultural acclimation, and you will continue your learning pathway towards your goals. Conexus Academy learning opportunities are available the entire time you are with Conexus.
Conexus Academy
For internationally educated healthcare professionals pursuing advancement and opportunity in the U.S., Conexus Academy delivers a personalized plan to guide your professional progression. Our in-house Conexus Academy educators will help you gain skills, and will support you once you are practicing in the U.S. to help your career grow.
Here are some real examples of Conexus international nurses and medical technologists have grown during their employment with Conexus.
Education Resources
Every lab and every hospital is different, which means the training for each is different, too. So, Conexus Academy focuses on standardization to help our healthcare professionals become well-versed on the most widely recognized and applied standards and guidelines that they will see in U.S. practice. After completing 12 months of working in the U.S. for us, Conexus offers nurses free study programs and covers the cost of their certification exams.
Standardize Growth Paths for Nurses
We offer two growth paths for nurses:
- Lateral: From med surg to ICU upon foundational mastery.
- Expert in Field: Certification programs and sponsorship to elevate your role (charge nurse).
Free Study Programs and Certifications
These certifications are offered through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC):
- Medical Surgical (MS BC)
- Cardiovascular (CV BC)
- Nursing Professional Development (NPD BC)
- Nursing leadership (NE_BC)
A Real-World Look at the Education Journey
We consider your goals and aspirations for professional growth and make plans accordingly.
Let’s follow along with John, a medical-surgical nurse.
Step 1: Core Education
John starts off like all Conexus nurses do: by bridging the practice-theory gap with a strong foundation based on a competency framework of the top 25 conditions funded by Medicare and Medicaid (DRGs), National Patient Safety Goals (NPSG), Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) Survey results, and the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI).
Step 2: Personalized Education
Our educators seek to understand John’s long-term goals as a practicing U.S. RN. They learn that he dreams of becoming an expert in his field as a charge nurse or unit manager.
Once in the U.S., our team partners with John’s hiring facility in support of his desired nursing career progression. With supported orientation programs, one-on-one coaching, and regular check-ins, John can also connect with his Conexus colleagues via weekly webinars to ask clinical questions in a safe and supportive environment.
After orientation, and as John starts to feel more comfortable in the U.S., our educators check in on his progress toward his goals. John expresses his desire for certification, so our educator summarizes the requirements and encourages him to complete the application for the free Conexus Certification program.
Step 3: Education for Advancement
These core programs meet John’s career goals, so he enrolls in the medical-surgical certification program.
This program allows enrollments year-round, but study groups commence three times annually, so John prepares himself for the upcoming start date in six weeks.
John appreciates the additional study and preparation time and completes all required paperwork. He also knows from the informational packet provided by the Conexus Academy Certification team that he will need to commit to a six-month study program, which includes study groups with his peers.
The study groups are held monthly and include a review of written content, discussion groups, and fun activities. John loves how these study groups are a key gathering-point for discussing content, sharing ideas, solidifying knowledge and mutual support.
At the end of the six-month study program, John passes his certification exam on his first attempt. He is now the expert in his field he dreamed of becoming—and he’s so proud to add the MS-BC to his email signature.
