Meet Cynthia Barbosa, Director of Immigration, and discover how our dedicated team guides healthcare professionals through every step of their immigration journey

For many international healthcare professionals, the dream of working in the United States comes with one significant hurdle: immigration.

Visa applications. Legal documentation. Timelines that seem to stretch endlessly. Questions about what happens next. It can all feel overwhelming but at Conexus MedStaff, you’re never navigating it alone.

We sat down with Cynthia to talk about what the Immigration team does behind the scenes, how they support candidates through every stage of the process and why their work is about so much more than paperwork.

Cynthia, can you tell us a bit about your role at Conexus and what the Immigration team does to support healthcare professionals?

“As Immigration Director at Conexus, I oversee the full immigration strategy for our healthcare professionals, from their first petition all the way through to permanent residency. Our Immigration team manages every legal and procedural step of the process, working closely with candidates, legal counsel and internal departments to ensure each professional can deploy as quickly as possible.”

In other words, they handle complex matters, so you can focus on preparing for your new career in the U.S.

For many people, immigration can feel overwhelming. How does your team simplify the process and help candidates understand what to expect?

“Our immigration team understands how overwhelming and intimidating the immigration process can be for our candidates. We simplify it by breaking down each stage, setting clear expectations upfront and keeping our healthcare professionals updated as they progress through their immigration journey. We educate candidates on expected timeframes and requirements from the very beginning, so there are no surprises.”

Translation: You’ll always know where you stand, what’s happening next and what to expect along the way.

Many members of the Immigration team have been through the U.S. immigration process themselves. How does that lived experience shape the way you support nurses and medical technologists?

“I’ve had over 20 years of experience in the immigration field, and that experience has developed a deep passion for helping immigrants access life-changing opportunities. I’ve been exposed to all the emotions, from anxiety and fear to excitement, which have shaped my approach to every case with empathy, patience and understanding. We aren’t just pushing paper, we’re advocating for our candidates to ensure they’re given the best opportunity for future success.”

When your Immigration team has walked the same path you’re walking, it changes everything. They don’t just understand the process; they understand you.

Is there a particular moment or success story from a candidate’s immigration journey that stands out to you?

“There are many, but the moments that stand out the most are when candidates finally enter the United States or obtain their Green Card. Recently, we supported a Registered Nurse who went through a scrutiny review and faced endless requests for additional documents. The appreciation she showed upon entry was the most rewarding part of this role.”

These aren’t just visa approvals. They’re life-changing moments and Cynthia’s team is there for every single one.

What are some of the most common concerns or questions candidates have at the beginning of their immigration process and how do you help them navigate those?

“Most candidates are concerned about timelines, costs, family members and the possibility of delays or denials. We address those concerns by being honest, realistic and proactive. We explain what’s within our control, what isn’t and how we prepare for every scenario. Transparency builds trust and trust is essential in immigration.”

No sugar coating. No false promises. Just honest, clear guidance from people who genuinely care about your outcome.

How does the team support candidates when unexpected delays or challenges arise?

“Delays are sometimes unavoidable in immigration, but candidates are never left alone during those moments. We stay in constant communication, provide updates and work closely with legal counsel to resolve issues as efficiently as possible. Just as importantly, we offer reassurance and support because we understand how stressful delays can be.”

When things get complicated (and sometimes they do), you’ll have an expert team fighting in your corner.

What’s one thing people might find surprising about what the Immigration team does behind the scenes to move each case forward?

“People are often surprised by how much strategic planning, coordination and follow ups happen behind the scenes. Each case involves careful tracking of deadlines, regulatory changes and individual circumstances. We’re constantly monitoring policies and adjusting strategies to protect each candidate’s immigration status and long-term goals.”

Your immigration journey isn’t just about filling out forms. It’s about strategic planning, proactive problem-solving and constant vigilance to keep your case moving forward.

Can you explain how the Immigration team partners with candidates throughout the entire journey, from securing their U.S. work visa to applying for their Green Card at the end of the contract?

“Our partnership with candidates is long-term. We guide them through their initial visa process, support them throughout their assignment and continue through their Green Card application by monitoring visa availability and filing their application for a Green Card as soon as they’re eligible.”

This isn’t a transactional relationship. The Immigration team is with you for the long haul, from day one through to permanent residency.

What do you want every Conexus healthcare professional to know about the Immigration team and the commitment you make to their case?

“I want every Conexus healthcare professional to know that we treat their case as if it were our own. We are deeply invested in their success, their families and their future in the U.S. Immigration isn’t just our profession, it’s our passion and we are walking alongside them in this journey.”

If you could offer one piece of reassurance or encouragement to someone feeling anxious about the immigration process, what would it be?

“You are not alone on this journey. This is a joint commitment, and we can reassure you: we will deploy you to the United States as soon as possible.”

Yes, the immigration process can feel daunting, but with Conexus’s Immigration team by your side, you’re supported every step of the way by people who genuinely care about your success.

From setting clear expectations to navigating delays, from celebrating visa approvals to securing your Green Card, Cynthia and her team will be by your side.

Because at Conexus, we don’t just help healthcare professionals get to the U.S. We help them build lives there.
