What I’ve Learned From Making Social Impact Part of Our Purpose
By Conexus MedStaff - Posted Aug 19, 2025
At Conexus MedStaff, we’ve long believed in the power of healthcare professionals to change lives. However, over the past few years, we’ve made a conscious decision to elevate our work by embedding a more profound sense of global purpose into everything we do.
Our journey hasn’t always been straightforward. It requires investment, reflection, boldness, and a willingness to listen, learn, and adapt. As we publish our first Conexus MedStaff Global Impact Report, I would like to share five key lessons that I’ve learned as we’ve worked to align our business with an even greater goal: providing global opportunities with generational impact.
1. Purpose must be lived, not only stated
We wanted to be intentional with the changes we’re making and transparent in our communications about them, so they were more than a statement sitting stagnant on our own website. We wanted changes to be recognizable in daily operations. Integrating purpose means going beyond words. It means embedding your values into hiring, partnerships, customer experiences, and the small, everyday decisions made by your teams.
When we initiated this strategic approach, we asked ourselves how we could integrate our impact into our operations, rather than just stating it on our website. At Conexus, this meant asking tough questions: Are we supporting the communities we serve in a meaningful way? Are we removing barriers that prevent our healthcare professionals from thriving? Are we utilising our resources to drive impact where it’s needed most and will have lasting, generational significance? We asked: how can we show up bigger? That’s why our Global Impact targets are integrated with our key business objectives and results, with visibility incorporated throughout every layer of the organization. It’s our shared purpose.
2. The best ideas often come from within your team
One of the most inspiring aspects of this journey has been witnessing how our own people, including our healthcare professionals, have embraced purpose in their own lives. Whether through volunteering, mentoring, or championing causes, our team has consistently driven grassroots impact. One of the ways we’ve shaped our commitment is by increasing our allocation of employee volunteer hours, so all members of the team can invest in the projects they are passionate about.
Purpose becomes powerful when it’s co-owned. We didn’t impose a top-down strategy. Instead, we invited everyone to be part of the conversation and share with us the causes they are passionate about outside of work. Inclusivity is a prime example of effective collaboration. The result is an authentic, lasting commitment to creating meaningful impact. It was so powerful that we decided to create an annual Community Award to recognize our employees who go that extra mile as a way of life.
3. Impact doesn’t always have to be massive to be meaningful
Early on, we contemplated scale. For example, how big – or small to start – were our contributions and how many people could we really help? But we soon realized that impact doesn’t have to be measured only in dollars or numbers. A single scholarship, a timely food donation, or a workshop for newly arrived healthcare professionals can change the course of one person’s life. And that was enough for us to start.
Small, thoughtful actions can have a ripple effect. They build trust. They spark hope. And when multiplied across a global community, they become transformative and generational.
4. Partnerships multiply purpose
We’ve had the honor of working with outstanding organizations like Taimaka, Fairplay for All Foundation, Village HopeCore, Sabre Education, Angat Buhay, and Action for the Care and Development of the Poor, whose work in healthcare, education, and community development has inspired us deeply. These partnerships and the relationships are built on a shared commitment to community wellbeing, sustainable support, and the power of collective action. This has shown us that we don’t need to do it all on our own, and that there are experts who know better than we do the how and where support is needed most.
When you align with the right partners, those that share your values and vision, your ability to make a difference grows exponentially. Together, you go further. And it multiplies. As we’ve committed more, so have those around us, including our suppliers, our business partners, and our friends in the Philippines, such as Universal Staffing, who have also come on board to give their time and support to the Fairplay community in Payatas, Philippines.
5. A purpose-driven business is just good business
There’s a misconception that social impact sits at odds with commercial growth. I’ve found that our commitment to global purpose has strengthened our culture, deepened trust with our stakeholders, and attracted an incredible team of employees who want to be part of something really meaningful.
It’s also made us more resilient. In a world of uncertainty, purpose gives you a steady foundation. It reminds you why you do what you do, even when the path ahead is unclear.
Looking ahead to 2026 and beyond
Publishing our first Global Impact Report is a proud moment for our team, but it’s not a finish line, it’s a new beginning. We remain committed to learning, listening, and growing as a purpose-driven organization. In 2025, we will launch a Conexus Day to fundraise for partners, joining the team together to meet our ambitions of global impact targets and the start of new partnerships with organizations to support education and healthcare around the globe.
For me, this journey is personal. In June, I took part in a 50km ultra challenge to raise funds for autism awareness, building on personal experiences that continue to shape how I lead with empathy, perspective, and a sense of responsibility that extends beyond office walls. It’s a reminder that purpose doesn’t only live in our business plans, it lives in the choices we make every day.
To those just beginning this journey. Start small, be sincere, and involve your people. The rewards are immeasurable.
