International Nurses: The solution to North Carolina’s nurse shortage

By Conexus MedStaff - Posted Sep 25, 2018

By 2025, the American state of North Carolina is projected to have the second largest shortage of nurses in the country.

The deficit? 12,900 nurses!

Medical deserts

Of the 80 rural counties in North Carolina, 70 are currently ‘medical deserts’ for lack of availability to primary care. North Carolina Health News reported that ‘rural areas have a shortage of almost every type of provider‘ – a statistic that can’t afford to grow.

Nurses play a large role in the US healthcare system. They are the single-largest population in healthcare. They play a central part in increase the value of health care by improving outcomes and the effects of not having enough nurses to provide quality care, could be devastating. North Carolina is going through a critical nursing shortage, especially beyond the nation’s urban facilities, with organizations such as the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina each donating $1 million to Triad Universities to help combat the nursing shortage in the nation.
