From Kenya to Iowa: Hermaton’s American Dream

At Conexus MedStaff, we’re proud to support international nurses as they pursue life-changing careers in the United States. Hermaton, a dedicated nurse from Bungoma, Kenya, recently made the move to Des Moines, Iowa, where he’s now thriving in his new role and adjusting to life in the U.S.
At first, the process seemed challenging, but with the support and guidance of the Conexus team, Hermaton was able to navigate it step by step.
“My experience with Conexus was very positive. They guided me throughout the process and made it manageable. I will always recommend them.”
Since starting his new role earlier this year, Hermaton has already been recognised for the positivity and kindness he brings to work each day. His leadership team shared that his outlook has reshaped the culture of his unit, impacting not just his colleagues, but patients and families too. On his day off, Hermaton even volunteered to support a fellow international nurse during her facility tour.
“My experience in my new workplace has been so positive. My colleagues and supervisors have been helpful and collaborative, which has made it easier for me to learn and adapt.”
Moving to the U.S. on his own was a big step, and his family will be joining him soon. In the meantime, Hermaton is embracing his new life and the diverse culture of his new home. He’s looking forward to visiting iconic places like the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Mount Rushmore, and the Statue of Liberty.
He’s also got big dreams for the future.
“I want my family to experience American culture and enjoy all the good things the U.S. offers.”
To other international nurses dreaming of the U.S., Hermaton has this advice:
“The journey to America as a nurse is hard and tiresome. It requires patience, hard work, resilience, and a good agent. Conexus MedStaff is there for you. They will hold your hand, guide you, and bring you here. Just never give up; keep moving.”
