In 2022, registered nurse, Angelica, moved to the U.S. with her husband, Ray, and their two children. Moving to the United States had been her “childhood dream”, and when she came across the opportunity to work for Conexus MedStaff in 2017, she couldn’t pass up on the opportunity. We had the chance to chat with her about her experience in the U.S., and how her family is settling into their new home.
Having considered the United States a dream for many years, Angelica described the feeling of being able to start a new life there as “amazing, beautiful, happiness.” “Moving to the U.S. has been one of the best choices me and my family made,” Angelica explained. “It has helped my whole family to achieve the life we have always wanted. It has made our life stable and comfortable.”
Having lived in the UAE before moving to the United States, Angelica and her family were used to being expatriates. “The UAE and U.S. are very different with different weather, culture, traditions… but my kids adjusted well to living in the UAE, and so far, they are loving it even more here in the U.S.”
Angelica’s older daughter started first grade in the United States. One thing that she likes in particular is being able to walk to school rather than needing to take the bus like she did to get to kindergarten in the UAE. She enjoys school there and has made friends.
As a parent, Angelica believes that the U.S. offers better prospects for her children. “I think the biggest advantage for them is that the U.S. offers a lot of job opportunities for everybody. My children will learn to be independent too, since children here usually work while they’re studying at college. I think that will be a very good learning experience for them, not only on the education part but mainly for life itself.”
And it isn’t just their children who are finding opportunities in the United States, as Angelica’s husband – also a nurse – has secured a job since moving there, too. When she started her application to Conexus, Angelica encouraged her husband to complete his NCLEX license so that it would be easier for him to get a job once they relocated to the United States. “He started studying and preparing for the NCLEX in the UAE, and when we moved here, he adjusted to everything. He built up the courage to take the exam.” After he passed, he found a job working in the same hospital as Angelica. She’s thankful that they get to work together.
Overall, the experience of moving to and settling into the U.S. has been a positive one for Angelica and her family. “The move has been easy because I came here with my family,” she said. “This country is so beautiful and until now it still amazes not just me but my whole family, so really it was not that hard adjusting.”
As for advice she would offer to her fellow healthcare professionals who are considering moving to the United States? “Believe in yourself. Trust the process. It is all worth it. Pray. Everything will come at the right time. Thank you, Conexus, for making my dream come true.”
