Three Conexus RNs recently received Conexus MedStaff's Education Advancement for Registered Nurses (EARN) Scholarship, a biannual scholarship that supports dedicated healthcare professionals with the opportunity to advance their clinical knowledge, skills or education to further enhance the level and service of care they provide. The recipients - Will Ducusin, Abigael Otis, and Yin Yun Zheng - were celebrated this month within their local communities with colleagues, supervisors and facility staff.

Will Ducusin, an oncology nurse who recently completed his Conexus contract and is now excelling in a management role at a Conexus partner facility in Tennessee, is dedicated to providing compassionate and high-quality care to individuals and their families facing cancer. He recently obtained the prestigious Oncology Nursing Certification and is dedicated to expanding his knowledge, skills and abilities through advanced education to make a greater impact.

Among his team and leaders, Will is described as a reliable, detail-oriented, kind, motivated, hard working leader as he has served as a charge nurse and preceptor.

"In the field of oncology, I have worked tirelessly to provide holistic care to individuals battling cancer. I have seen firsthand the physical, emotional, and psychological toll this disease takes on patients and their loved ones. It is a privilege to be able to support and empower them during their most vulnerable moments. The challenges faced by oncology patients, from diagnosis to treatment and survivorship, have reinforced my commitment to this field."

One of Will's supervisors described him as "by far the best international nurse that I have had the pleasure of working with, and in fact, one of the most outstanding nurses I have worked with in the 35+ years that I have been on the oncology unit."

Abigael Otis plans to take the certification test for Emergency nurses. Described as passionate, positive and professional, one team member states that Abigael is "exceptionally gifted at making patients feel comfortable; she is one of the most compassionate, professional, and competent nurses that I have ever seen."

She is recognized across her unit as a clinical and professional resource, often seen at the bedside teaching and mentoring other nurses.

Yin Yun Zheng joined Conexus in 2021 as an F1 graduate and aspires to become a certified Medical Surgical nurse. In her own words, "I've learned a lot these past three years as a Med Surg nurse, but there's still a lot more to learn in this area. Being certified not only will increase my knowledge in this area, but it will also further my career by opening doors of opportunity to become a preceptor and charge nurse. This will be my first certification of many and a stepping stone in my career."

Yin has received accolades from her managers, colleagues and patients for her attention to detail, kindness, positive nature, and dedication to her patients and their care.

Her nurse manager adds that Yin has been recognized on multiple occasions for going above and beyond and has been acknowledged by peers for support on the unit, and recently received a DAISY Award nomination from a patient.

We are thrilled to support Will, Abigael, and Yin as their work towards achieving their goals with Conexus and beyond. The EARN Scholarship is awarded biannually to eligible Conexus RNs. The next EARN Scholarship will be awarded in May 2024. Learn more or apply here.
