Starting a new job is a big step but starting a new job in a new country as an international registered nurse is a bigger step. That’s why it’s important to make sure that you are working alongside an agency that is right for you and has your best interests at heart.
Do you want to work with a Direct Hire company or a Staffing agency?
This is a big consideration, so it’s good to do your research. Direct hire means working directly for a hospital in the USA. By comparison, working through a Staffing Agency means that an agency will place you in one of their client hospitals
The Staffing Agency route ultimately gives you more choice. For example, Conexus work with over 180 hospitals in the USA. That means we can guarantee that you will be placed in a hospital that suits your skills and passion. Find out more on our blog about the difference between the two, and why a staffing agency could provide you with more security.
Are you prepared to organise your own visa?
In many cases, if you chose to work with a direct hire agency, you will be expected to take control of your own immigration process and organise your own visa. This is a massive and confusing task for anyone.
Alternatively, if you decide to work with an agency, pick one that will organise your visa sponsorship for you! Between working, passing your NCLEX-RN and having fun with your friends and family, the last thing you need to take care of is your US visa application. Here at Conexus, our in-house Immigration team take the pain of visa sponsorship away from you – for no fee! Our team of experts will do everything for you, giving you more time to do what you love.
How much do you want to pay?
Here at Conexus Medstaff we never ask for a fee from our international registered nurses. We believe that it shouldn’t cost you a penny to achieve your US RN dream! So be aware of agencies that do charge a fee.
Do you want your family to join you?
If you want your family to join you on your US RN adventure, then you’ll need to find an agency that allows your spouse and family to embark on your US journey with you. Conexus are only happy if our registered nurses are happy. If that means bringing you family with you, then in the words of our Operation Team, “the more, the merrier.”

Do you want to work with a company that will fully prepare you for nursing in the USA?
It can be very daunting for international registered nurses to start work in a new hospital in the US. So it’s important that you are given as much support as possible – before, during and after your assignment. Avoid agencies that leave you in the dark and expect you to hit the ground running on your first day. Who needs that level of pressure. We want our nurses to be the best they can be. That’s why all our international registered nurses are enrolled on our free, learning program ahead of starting their nursing career in the US - US Ready.
Do you want to be more than just an employee?
If you don’t want to be just another number, you need to work with an agency that value you and the skills, compassion and personality you bring to your nursing job. Likewise, you should look for an agency that doesn’t just get you to work, but is also there for you outside of work, too.
Our goal is helping you to fully embrace your new life in the US. Our international registered nurses don’t call us their Conexus Family for nothing.
