Guide to securing your Priority Date
By Conexus MedStaff - Posted Sep 17, 2025
What is a Priority Date?
A Priority Date is the date your I-140 petition is filed with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). It establishes your place in line for an immigrant visa and determines when you can apply for a green card. Your Priority Date becomes current when it matches the cutoff date published monthly in the U.S. Department of State Visa Bulletin.
Why securing Priority Date matters
The earlier your I-140 is filed, the earlier you secure your place in the visa queue.
Your Priority Date determines when you can apply for permanent residency (green card).
Filing early protects your future, even if there are backlogs.
