Our Charity: The Calvert Trust

This year each of the Conexus offices from around the world will be choosing to support two local charities that are close to their hearts. Every day we are amazed at the kindness of our international nurses and so we thought it was now our turn to give back in to our communities, after all, the more we give to worthwhile causes, the happier we feel!

The first charity has been picked the Conexus Medstaff UK team, who are proud to share that they will be donating to the Calvert Trust. The Calvert Trust is a registered charity located in the beautiful Lake District National Park, with 40 year experience in developing challenging outdoor adventure holidays for disabled adults and children. The Calvert Trust helps thousands of disabled adults and children take part in activities that they may not have had the opportunity to enjoy. Together with their friends and families, the charity aims to enable people with disabilities to achieve their potential through taking part in outdoor adventures in the English countryside. These activities include sailing, climbing, abseiling, hill walking, caving, archery, orienteering, and cycling plus much more.

When asked the reasons for choosing to donate to the Calvert Trust, the Conexus Medstaff  UK team members said:

Passionate about Wellbeing
As a team we are very passionate about not only our own wellbeing, but the wellbeing of others. We know that being outdoors and breathing in some fresh air is good for us. Research shows that being in nature is essential to our physical and psychological health and wellbeing. For example, spending time amongst trees is known to have a positive impact on reducing stress levels, whilst the sound of birds singing is known to offer reassurance, and sunlight is scientifically proven to boost our mood and reduce depression and anxiety.  Our quality of life is improved by the therapeutic outcomes that nature offers. Ultimately nature equals happiness. For many of us, spending time outdoors is easy, but such a simple thing as going hill walking or cycling can not only feel daunting to people with disabilities but it can also feel impossible as it requires more steps and a lot more planning. That’s why the Calvert Trust was the charity for us! The Calvert Trust make being in nature and getting involved in exciting, outdoor activities possible for thousands of people with physical, learning, behavioural and sensory disabilities, by offering fully accessible equipment in a safe and beautiful environment.

The charm of the Lake District
The Lake District National Park is one of the most beautiful parts of the United Kingdom. We have all visited the Lake District at some point in our lives and for all of us it brings memories of happiness and adventure! We believe everyone should be able to connect with nature and enjoy everything that the Lake District landscape has to offer – regardless of their disabilities.

For the above reasons and more, Conexus Medstaff are delighted to be a sponsor for the Calvert Trust’s out door theatre performance of Dr Dolittle by Hugh Lofting. All of the proceeds from the people auction and the ticket sales costs of the performance will go straight to the Calvert Trust Charity and the work on their Replacement Mini-Bus Project.
